Question: Should I use a Professional for Preventive Maintenance?

Customers on our Planned Maintenance Program find that it's better to have us check their Systems at the start of the Cooling and the Heating season than to do nothing.  We'll check what needs to be checked, clean what needs to be cleaned, suggest what needs to be done to get you ready.   Most Planned Maintenance Customers go through the year with no problems.  They agree that this program has value by reducing the potential for breakdowns during the season.   A little maintenance may keep your Heating and Cooling System from showing itself during your big event.

Is your Air Conditioning System ready for spring?

Well, maybe some simple maintenance is in order before you turn on that A/C. Check in and around the outdoor A/C for sticks and leaves. With the A/C unit turned off, use a stick to spin the fan to see if it is free. Look over the A/C unit. If there is anything unusual, call us to check it out. If the coil needs to be cleaned, call us. We have the right chemicals to clean the indoor and outdoor coils without damaging them. We can check out your system and make sure the refrigerant charge is correct, before you have a problem.

Question: We had a big hail storm. Can hail damage affect my air conditioning system?

Got a hail damaged roof?  You may want to look at your Air Conditioner.  Sometimes subtle, sometimes obvious, often overlooked; hail damage can be significant.  It can reduce the efficiency of your Air Conditioning System costing you $$$$$.  It can also reduce the life of your equipment, requiring early replacement.  First check the top for dents.  These would be similar to what you would see on a hail damaged car hood.  Next, check the fan for bent blades or excess vibration.  Also check the fins on the coil for dents and divots.  If see signs of hail damage, call us for a professional opinion.  Often, insurance will pay to have it repaired.  We are glad to help!

Question: My Skin itches and I can’t sleep.  Can you help?

Low Indoor Humidity can create issues.  Beyond the obvious static shock, low indoor humidity can create breathing discomfort, dry skin, and dry sinuses.  Conditions worsen as temperatures outdoors fall below freezing and the Indoor Humidity drops below 40%.  Even though the humidity outdoors is high, when cool moist air is heated, the relative humidity falls, and the amount of moisture it needs to be comfortable is increased.  When it is extremely cold outside, the humidity indoors can fall to uncomfortable levels. Superheating the air with a gas furnace exacerbates the problem.  Adding a whole house Humidifier to the Heating System will raise the relative humidity to acceptable levels.  We recommend Aprilaire Whole House Humidifiers.  We will check out your system and properly size and select the right humidifier to meet the moisture needs of your home.  Happy Breathing!

Question: What is IAQ?

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is a fairly new issue to the Heating and Cooling Industry.  Clean air in your home is not a given. Often the air in a Home can be contaminated with Dust, Pollen, Mold, Mildew, and Allergens.  Often family members with sinus issues fair worse indoors than out.  This could be a sign of poor indoor air quality.  Electronic air cleaners and higher efficiency air filters can be effective in reducing airborne irritants.  If dust is your issue, we can help!  Obviously more noticeable on Hardwood Floors and other solid surfaces, dust can be reduced significantly with a quality air cleaner.  Please call for information.
